Your Stay
Your Bedroom

We use feather duvets and a combination of feather and synthetic pillows. We can replace these with non-allergenic alternatives on request. If you would like a top sheet or an additional pillow please ask.
There is a fan in your wardrobe and also a blanket in the drawstring bag.
The central heating in the house is thermostatically controlled, when the temperature falls below a certain level the heating will come on automatically. You can also control the heat in your room by using the valve on your radiator, the higher the number, the warmer the radiator. The towel radiator is controlled centrally and cannot be adjusted by you.

We refresh your hospitality tray daily. A flask of fresh milk is provided for you in the breakfast room fridge which will be cleaned and replenished daily.
Your Breakfast
Breakfast service starts at 08:00 and finishes at 09:30
If you wish to have the English Breakfast there is no need to pre-order.
Please complete a pre-order form (these are in the Breakfast Room), for one of our ‘Lighter Options’ by 7pm.
We can cater for Vegetarian, Vegan & Gluten Free, please tell us if you have any dietary requirements. For allergy & food intolerance information please see our Allergen Advisory Notice
Should you need to depart prior to breakfast service, please let us know and we can make you a takeaway breakfast if required.
We make our own seasonal items and we are always happy to share recipes – do ask if you would like to take home our delicious Winter Spiced Compote recipe!
Check Out
Check out is by 10:00 on your day of departure. Regrettably, we are unable to accommodate late departures.
Payment may be made in cash or by credit/debit card.
If you are catching a later train and would like to leave your luggage with us, you are most welcome to leave your luggage in the Breakfast Room after breakfast service.
Laundry
We can wash and tumble dry a machine load of clothing for £12. Please ask us about this service; it’s usually ready within 24 hours.
We have an iron & ironing board for guest use, please just ask and we will set this up for you in your room.
Breakfast Room
Please use the Breakfast room whenever you wish, to sit and enjoy the view, read or just relax and have drink.
The music and lighting will be turned off automatically at 22:30
Take-aways
Please use the Breakfast Room if you wish to bring home a take-away; we can provide plates and cutlery.
No hot food in the guest bedrooms please, thank you.
Library
In our Breakfast Room we have a small selection of guides to York and the UK, as well as some books on the history & culture of England/Britain. You are very welcome to borrow these, please return them by the end of your stay.
We also have selection of books that have been left by previous guests. Please feel free to help yourself, alternatively if you’ve finished a book of your own leave it there; the next guest will be most appreciative.
The Patio and Garden
Please feel free to use the bistro tables on the patio to enjoy the view of the river, with perhaps a drink or two.
Customers own drinks can be left in the breakfast room fridge. Glasses and a corkscrew/bottle opener will also be left in the breakfast room.
Please leave any used glasses in your room and we will take these away as part of our daily room tidy.

Please do not Smoke or Vape in the Guest House.
Environmental
As we have become increasingly aware of our responsibilities towards the environment we are developing a robust ‘Tread Lightly’ policy.
Please join your fellow travelers by only using the towels you need and by reusing them until the end of your stay.
We recycle all cardboard, paper & newspapers, plastic bottles & glass. Please use the recycling bin in the breakfast room, or place items for recycling by the bin in your room.
We have made huge strides in reducing our use of plastics, especially single use plastic.
Where possible we use ‘Bees Wrap’ or similar. We will remove plastic items once they have reached their end of life and plan to replace with sustainable alternatives.

We garden organically and encourage wildlife to support the natural eco system.
Unclaimed lost property, clothing or items no longer needed by guests are donated to the British Heart Foundation if re-usable.
Our central heating system manages the heating and hot water. All rooms have thermostatic controls and can be turned off or down when not in use.
Our Restaurant Recommendations
Over recent years York has become a real destination for outstanding food. From Fine Dining to Casual Cafés, there really is something for everyone.

We only recommend independent cafés & restaurants; you won’t find them elsewhere on your travels. All our choices consistently provide a great dining experience and use first class ingredients, with great flavours.
These are our favorites but please ask us if you are looking for something in particular.
Download our York Restaurant Cafe Guide so you have it with you when you are out & about in the city.
